Mary D'Alton, MD, is a leader in the field of maternal fetal medicine and nationally recognized for advancing scientific techniques, research and policy development. She is an expert clinician renowned for her skills in prenatal diagnosis, multiple pregnancies and medical complications in pregnancy. Dr. D'Alton has used her extensive experience in managing academic divisions to establish the highest standards in high-risk care in the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She has worked to create a multidisciplinary team to take care of the highest risk pregnancies diagnosed with malformations. She has trained over thirty Fellows, many of whom have become national leaders. Among many roles, Dr. D'Alton is principal investigator for the (NICHD) FASTER trial and is a member of the NICHD Council. Dr. D'Alton has published, edited and presented more than 150 publications including medical articles, book chapters and books and is the co-author of Fetology, a reference book for fetal diagnosis and treatment which won the 2001 Association of American Publishers Award for Best Textbook in Clinical Medicine.

As Chair, Dr. D'Alton oversees every area of research , teaching and patient care, with the assistance of Sloane Hospital's management team. Dr. D'Alton earned her degree in Medicine at the National University of Ireland in Galway and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Ottawa in Canada. She was a Fellow in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine and a Post-doctoral Fellow in the Perinatal Unit of the Yale University School of Medicine. She was named Chair of Sloane Hospital for Women in 2003.

Fulfilling the mandate of Sloane Hospital for Women to care for patients, uphold rigorous quality standards, pursue research, and transmit knowledge from veteran practitioners to new generations of skilled obstetricians and gynecologists requires outstanding managers. Sloane Hospital's vice chairs take on leadership roles over and above their everyday patient care, teaching, and research responsibilities.



Richard U. LevineRichard U. Levine, MD
Vice Chairman, Strategic Planning and Development

Dr. Richard U. Levine has been associated with Sloane Hospital for Women since 1967, when he became a resident; he served as chief resident from 1970-1972. As Vice Chair of Strategic Planning and Development he is responsible for development and quality assurance. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

 

 

Mark V. Sauer, MDMark V. Sauer, MD
Vice Chair, Academic Affairs

Dr. Mark V. Sauer came to Sloane Hospital in 1995 to direct the program in Assisted Reproduction. As Vice Chair of Academic Affairs, he is responsible for medical school and residency affairs. He is also charged with enhancing Sloane Hospital's clinical research activities. Dr. Sauer chairs Sloane Hospital's medical ethics committee.
