P&S maintains student exchange programs with twenty-eight international medical schools. These electives are arranged through the P&S Office of Student Affairs. Other International Opportunities:

The Millennium Villages Project is a public health, non-clinical experience for Columbia students only.  Students are placed in a rural village setting of an underdeveloped country that lacks basic health and disease prevention infrastructure.  They work with a team surveying health related needs and implementing infrastructure for health care delivery, health education and disease prevention. P&S students may participate in an elective sponsored by the American Hospital in Paris and Cornell University. This elective is offered to two P&S students per month from December through April. Airfare is paid by program. Interested students should contact the Office of Student Affairs for further information. This elective is classified as "time away."
P&S students may also participate in an elective sponsored by the Republic of Armenia and Boston University. This elective is offered to two P&S students per month. Interested students should contact the Office of Student Affairs for further information. This elective is classified as "time away."

Additional opportunities are offered through Medicine in the Tropics (see PB02P) and Dr. Stephen Nicholas (see PE16P and PE17P) . These externships count as "time here." Additional P&S-sponsored international opportunities will be announced via e-mail.
P&S students may also participate in two-month electives in Kenya, India, and Ethiopia. Scheduled for January 15-March 15, these electives are sponsored by the collaborative Ben Gurion University of the Negev-Columbia University M.D. Program in International Health and Medicine. Students work in small groups with BGU-CU students, local medical school faculty, and health practitioners in developing country clinical settings and on community health projects. Housing is provided and students may not participate for less than two-months. Application deadline is May 1. This elective is classified as "time away." Interested students should contact the Office of Student Affairs for further information.
