The Executive MPH Program was established in 1990 to provide working health professionals with the skills, networks, and credentials needed to obtain a high-level management or policy position. The program has been an overwhelming success, attracting over 600 participants from both the United States and abroad who work at hospitals, health departments, managed care organizations, consulting firms, law firms, pharmaceutical companies, and other healthcare settings.
Dr. Tom D'Aunno
Program Director
Participants attend classes for one long week-end (Thursday to Sunday) a month for 24 months. The
curriculum provides an overview of the political, legal and economic forces that shape the healthcare system, an introduction to the core principles of public health, and a hands-on immersion into the principles and the practices of effective management. The
faculty includes full-time Professors from the Mailman School of Public Health along with senior practitioners. They are especially adept at relating classroom theory to the realities of the workplace. In addition, the program provides
career planning and career placement services to assist students in their effort either to change jobs or to advance within their current organization.
The EMPH Program is highly selective with limited enrollment each autumn. Applicants should have at least four years experience in healthcare and meet the
admission requirements of the Mailman School. The application deadline for the September 2010 entering class is June 15. Early applications are encouraged.
Applications received after this date will only be considered under highly unusual circumstances.
I encourage potential applicants to contact us for further information. You can call 212-305-0298 or email
emph@columbia.edu with any questions. In addition, watch a
video in which current and former students talk about the Program. Finally, arrange a visit to the campus to meet students and faculty and to learn first-hand of the ways in which we can help you improve your career and expand your knowledge.
