Health Corps

The Department of Surgery helps to fund Health Corps, a community outreach effort modeled on the Peace Corps. Health Corps volunteers receive a two-year stipend to educate children about healthy living. They visit schools across the nation, teaching about nutrition, mental health, exercise, and overall awareness of the value and power of our bodies and minds.

Reception Draws Turkish American Business Leaders

Dr. Hasan Garan

Drs. Mehmet C. Oz, Ozgen Dogan, and Hasan Garan hosted a reception at Columbia Presbyterian Eastside in December for the Turkish American Business Forum, a group of leading Turkish American business executives. After enjoying a delicious dinner of Turkish delicacies, the physicians told the audience about cardiac care services available at Columbia University Medical Center. The event was featured in the Turkish American newspaper Zaman. Dr. Oz is Vice Chairman of Cardiovascular Services at CUMC; Dr. Dogan is a cardiologist specializing in preventive cardiology; and Dr. Garan is Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at CUMC.
