Heart Team Returns to Cambodia to Train Surgeons and Heal Children

Following on his successful 2005 trip to Cambodia to perform heart surgery on children with congenital heart disease, Jonathan M. Chen, MD, a pediatric heart surgeon who is Assistant Professor of Surgery at Columbia, again led his team to Cambodia earlier this year. The trips are part of a mission in which pediatric heart surgery teams from developed countries bring surgery expertise to Cambodia.

Vietnam


Dr. Stolar helped coordinate Vietnam's first multidisciplinary perinatal symposium

For the second year in a row, Charles J. H. Stolar, MD, Chief of Pediatric Surgery, performed surgery on needy Vietnamese children. Accompanying him was Terry Crair, MD. The trip was sponsored by Project Vietnam.










Harbin, China

Plastic surgeon Jeffrey A. Ascherman, MD performed craniofacial surgery to repair cleft lips and other abnormalities on infants and young children in 2002. This was his second mission to Harbin, sponsored by Children of China Pediatrics Foundation.

  • Kenneth M. Steinglass, MD has been appointed Key References Editor of The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2002.
  • R. Peter Altman, MD, Surgeon-in-Chief, Children's Hospital of New York, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, has been elected President of the American Pediatric Surgical Association.
  • Ziv J. Haskal, MD was appointed Chairman of the American Heart Association Committee on Peripheral Vascular Imaging and Intervention. Dr. Haskal was visiting professor at three institutions in India: New Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bombay in March 2001. He conducted live case tutorials and presented invited lectures.
