Endocrine Tumors of The Pancreas
Islet cell tumors, also known as neuroendocrine tumors of the pancreas, affect approximately 2500 people in the United States annually.
Some of these tumors secrete excessive amounts of hormone, while the majority (60%) are nonfunctional.
More common functional islet cell tumors include insulinomas and gastrinomas, whereas glucagonomas, VIPomas, and somatostatinomas are much more unusual.
