Unique in the New York Metropolitan region, the Tumor Immunotherapy Program's dedicated, multidisciplinary team develops novel treatments that use the body's natural defenses to treat patients with cancer. Patients benefit from this translational approach, which draws upon the collaborative efforts of our laboratory research teams and clinical staff. We offer patients both FDA-approved and clinical-trial therapies using tumor vaccines, IL-2, and Interferon. Currently, we are investigating the benefits of these approaches to treat the following types of cancer:

- Lymphoma

Our Tumor Immunotherapy Laboratory focuses on research projects involving basic virology using recombinant technology to construct poxvirus vectors, in vitro T-cell assays to determine the effects of the vacine on T-cell function, and in vivo experiments using a novel transgenic mouse model of colorectal cancer to evaluate the effectiveness of new vaccines.
Howard L. Kaufman, MD, Director of the Tumor Immunotherapy Program, leads a team of doctors, nurses, and research scientists who have specialized training in vaccine therapy and biotherapy.
The Tumor Immunotherapy Program also educates health-care professionals in the various aspects of immunotherapy research and patient care.
